Sun Microsystems is partnering with Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) to
install StarSuite 6.0, Sun’s office productivity software suite, on every
desktop and notebook computer in every school in the territory. This deployment
will be covered under a cost-free license for StarSuite that Sun is donating to
schools through the Hong Kong Education City project operated by the Education
Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
EdCity is a government-funded project that promotes quality education and IT
culture for lifelong learning. It operates the education portal (http://www.hkedcity.net)
in Hong Kong with more than 1.5 million page views a day from over 6,00,000
teachers, students and parents.
EdCity will take responsibility for providing front-line support for users of
StarSuite throughout the SAR’s 2,400 schools and evangelize educational
applications of the software through building up an online and offline community
of StarSuite users.
