New Update

Xerox will introduce a 15 ppm (pages per minute) and 16 ppm copier-scanner-printer-fax in the next three months. While the 15 ppm MFD will debut in June, the 16 ppm model is expected to be launched sometime in August. This was revealed by Iriena Massenlivkova, Marketing Head-Monochrome, Xerox. Iriena was in town to educate end-users at the company's 'Extreme'

roadshow.

Xerox also had recently embarked on an aggressive strategy for its low-end printers by slashing prices. Iriena says that the company will continue bringing down prices to increase the acceptance of its entry-level products. At the same time, she adds that price cuts were just one facet of the company strategy. "While we want our products to be affordable to customers across all segments, we will also continue to introduce new designs with better configurations. This will act as a differentiator between us and competition," Iriena informs.

Both these products will be pushed through the channel and are expected to be in the price range of Rs 95,000 to Rs 1 lakh, adds Clifford Dweltz of Xerox India. "The USP of these products are that they can be easily upgraded by customers at nominal costs," he states.

Xerox plans to gradually introduce a suite of 21 new and enhanced office products - including nine new digital copiers, basic multifunction devices that print and copy, and advanced MFDs that print, copy, fax, scan and e-mail. The speeds for these products range from 16 to 90 ppm. Under the new Office Product line up, all Xerox digital copiers and office multifunction systems would belong to one of three families - CopyCentre, WorkCentre or WorkCentre Pro.

As per an IDC research, the Indian market for inkjet based MFDs has registered an impressive growth of 79.8% in unit terms and 13.5% in terms of value. 9,160 inkjet MFDs were shipped in the Indian market in first half of 2002 as compared to 5,094 units shipped in first half of 2001.
