Fire breaks out in Nehru Place Market building, no casualties reported

A massive fire broke out in a building located in the capital's Nehru Place Market. After this, there was a stir in the area.

A massive fire broke out in a building located in the capital's Nehru Place Market. After this, there was a stir in the area.

Local people informed the fire brigade about the fire. On receiving the information, the vehicles of the Delhi Police and Fire Brigade reached the spot immediately.

The information about the fire in the market was received by the team of the Delhi Fire Brigade at 5:25 pm, after which 6 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot.

Firefighters have brought the fire under control within an hour.  According to the information, the fire has started in the cloth godown cum showroom on the first floor of a Gedore House multi-storey building.

"The fire in the showroom number 51, 52 in the Gedore House broke out due to a short circuit. There is no casualty reported but lakhs of goods burnt to ashes", informed Mahinder Agarwal, President, ADCTA.

According to sources, there are no fire extinguishers placed in Nehru Place, which is Asia's largest IT market. Nehru Place market committee has also informed and warned DDA  and BSES in the past about the proper maintenance of Circuits all over the market but there has been no hearing into this.
